Call A Sacred Assembly PDF Print E-mail
Dr. Chuck Terrill

The Problem: It seems as though God has forsaken America and many of the churches in America. And why wouldn’t He?  It looks like America, and many Christians and Churches, have forsaken Him.

Why does God withhold His presence and His power?  Isaiah 59. 1-2 read this way:

Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you,  so that he will not hear.

The Solution: According to 2 Chronicles 7.14:

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Our Part: On Saturday evening, April 30, the church is being called together to pray after fasting for a day (24 hours).  To call a sacred assembly is a biblical concept.  Many times in the history of Israel, God has commanded the church to gather together for the sole purpose of repentance and confession through public prayer.  Please read these scriptures in their context: Joel 1.14-16; 2.13-17; Psalm 139:23-24; Leviticus 23.36; 2 Chronicles 20.4; Jeremiah 36.9; Nehemiah 1.5-11.  There are so many more scriptures that call for congregational repentance, fasting and prayer!

“It is my evaluation that sins of thought, attitude, speech, relationship, commission, omission, and pride have resulted in grieving the Holy Spirit of God.  God will not begin to move again in presence and in power until these sins are confessed and abandoned.”  Dr. Chuck Terrill

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Please make the following Commitments and keep them:

1. Daily repent of all known sins.  Sins of thought, attitude, speech, relationship, commission, omission, and pride must be confessed, both personally and corporately.
2. Seek God with all of your heart, soul, and mind.  This is best accomplished by daily reading a significant amount of scripture and asking God to reveal Himself to you.  I suggest the book of Proverbs, or any of the New Testament epistles as we approach out Spiritual Growth week.
3. Attend every worship opportunity:  Sunday morning Worship, Sunday School, Sunday Evening Service, Wednesday Evening Service, Every Session of Spiritual Life Week (April 24-29), and the Evening of Prayer and Fasting (April 30).
4. Pray passionately and desperately for renewed spiritual life, for yourself, and for others.

Amen, and amen.
